Changes in the skin are a natural part of the aging process and while it may be unwanted and a little concerning, we are all experiencing similar challenges. We are here to help you understand why changes are occurring and to identify some options that can reverse the signs of aging we see in the mirror.
#1 Wrinkles and Fine Lines
As we age, the skin loses collagen and elastin, which are the proteins that provide the skin structure and elasticity. In fact, our skin loses about 1% of our collagen every year after the age of 20! Kinda scary to do the math on that one. Many of the lines and wrinkles that develop and progressively deepen over time are caused by the dynamic facial movements we create every day.
Thankfully there are options available to stimulate regenerative processes of the body and reverse the signs of aging.
#2 Sagging and Loss of Elasticity
The skin may start to sag and lose elasticity as we age. This is particularly evident in the cheeks, around the mouth, the jawline and neck.
This is not just due to less collagen and elastin but is a product of the loss of fat and bone as we age.
Fat and bone are primary structural elements which support the skin. Without structural support the sagging begins.
#3 Sun Spots, Age Spots
Age spots or sun spots are flat brown spots that caused by excess pigmentation creation, a result of sun exposure that damages the skin most often exposed to the sun. Damage to our skin cells, particularly from UV radiation, causes our cells to produces excess melanin, pigmentation, which deposits irregularly in the skin.
#4 Dryness and Thinning
As we age, hydration is a challenge for the entire body. For the largest organ in your body, your skin, dehydration results in itching, cracking, and irritation as well as a reduction in the function of components of the skin. Did you know that 64% of the skin is water?
#5 Dullness and Uneven Tone
Environmental damage is a major factor in the appearance of the skin. As we progress in years the natural ‘glow’ of the skin is diminished. Along with more ‘dull’ skin the tone may become irregular. This isn’t really ‘spots’ but just diffuse irregular pigment seen in the skin. Back to top
What You Can Do About It
Treatment(s) | What it treats | Cost and Recovery |
DVDRF: microneedling with radio frequency. Delivers columns of RF energy to stimulate a healing response resulting in skin tightening. |
| Cost: From $599 Recovery: 2-5 days of redness and some flaking, crusting Video: https://youtu.be/K_AmPvcajQA |
Clear and Brilliant: two lasers in one treatment both stimulate a healing response and resurface dull dead skin resulting in improvements in both lines and wrinkles and even skin tone. |
| Cost: From $599 best results with a series of 3-5 treatments Recovery: 24-48 hours of redness and bronzing of the skin |
Thermage: uses monopolar radio frequency to ‘shrink wrap’ the skin producing tightening that lifts skin. |
| Cost: $1499 full face and neck Recovery: no downtime |
IPL: uses light energy absorbed into pigment and redness in the skin to resolve discoloration and stimulate healing. |
| Cost: From $299 best results with a series of 3-5 treatments Recovery: some redness and possible crusting for 24-48 hours |
Filler: naturally occurring hyaluronic acid fills in areas of volume loss and enhances volume in targeted areas. |
| Cost: From $649 per syringe. Best results from multi-syringe comprehensive approach Recovery: swelling for 24-48 hours with possibility of bruising |
Botox: inactivates targeted muscles which create dynamic facial lines. |
| Cost: From $11.50 per unit. Ave. treatment is 35-45 units. Recovery: no downtime possible bruising |
PRF: platelets within blood contain stimulating growth factors which are concentrated and applied topically or injected |
| Cost: $150 topical, $550 injections Recovery: swelling for 24-48 hours possible bruising |
Sculptra: this product is a biostimulator which causes your skin to create more collagen and essential components of healthy skin, increasing in thickness to restore volume lost by aging. |
| Cost: From $750 per vial
Recovery: swelling for 24-48 hours, possibility of bruising |
Fractional CO2: create microthermal zones treating damaged skin and stimulating regenerative processes to restore the skins glow and improve skin tone. |
| Cost: $1499 includes post procedure kit for skin care. Recovery: 3-7 days depending on area treated Video: https://youtu.be/Mo-l6iBvKJI |
Diamond Glow: combines a manual exfoliation of dead skin cells with infusion of potent serums to enhance the hydration and appearance of the skin |
| Cost: $195
Recovery: no downtime |
Chemical Peel: peels provide for a chemical exfoliation of dry, dead skin cells revealing refreshed, new skin | Dryness and Thinning, Dullness and Uneven Skin Tone | Cost: $80-160 Recovery: varies based on type of peel typically 2-5 days of flaking skin |
KTP Laser: The light energy of the KTP laser is absorbed into Melanin(pigment) and oxyhemoglobin(redness) in the skin to resolve irregular pigment and redness or small vessels in the skin |
| Cost: From $299 best results with a series of 3-5 treatments Recovery: some redness and possible crusting for 24-48 hours |
Facial Surgery: procedures will provide a much more enhanced and longer term option to address the common concerns of aging.
